Digital security and data analysis are two essential pillars of ICT operations in modern day contemporary
corporate business entities. To be equipped with knowledge coupled with hands-on proficiency in these two fields greatly heightens the value of an ICT personnel.

Students will have the option to choose from one of the combinations:

  • Bachelor of Computer Science (Digital Systems Security and Cyber Security)
  • Bachelor of Computer Science (Digital Systems Security and Big Data)
  • Bachelor of Computer Science (Big Data and Cyber Security)

Candidates who have the aptitude and interest may apply for direct entry into the double major program. Students will be admitted into this Double Major degree programme at the point of entry to SIM. They will be awarded with one degree with two majors, in accordance to the duration of study offered during admission. The duration of study will be identical to that of the single major counterpart, hence the Double Major shortens time via the innovative course structure, but delivers twice the learning impact and experience.

  • Students in the UOW programme at SIM are eligible to transfer to the Wollongong campus but subject to separate application and enrolment process.

As an ICT double major, you will learn insights and receive training encapsulating the world of computer security and can venture into uncovering hidden data trends.

It is conceived as an opportunity for students to broaden theirmknowledge and skill base bympursuing two majors concurrently.mThe programme aims to leveragemthe foundational base of computermscience, allowing students tomstretch their horizon of ICTmcompetencies in two complementing areas.This degree will feature and amalgamate two distinct majors within an innovative new structure. The degree focuses on both theoretical foundations and practical approaches to computation and its applications.

The completion date may vary depending on the exemptions granted (if any). Part-time mode is currently not open for application.

Maximum 3 times the duration for completion under a standard full-time load, subject to meeting ongoing course progression rules.

There will not be any refund should the student fail to complete the programme within the maximum allowed period.

Students who exceed their candidature period will not be allowed to remain in the programme, unless an extension to the candidature period is approved by the University.

Curriculum

Structure

  • This programme is taught in ²ÝÁñÉçÇø by local academics and/or practitioners as well as UOW academics.
  • Average teacher-student ratio is 1:55.
  • The course is intensive and demanding but rewarding and achievable.
  • Classes include face-to-face lectures, tutorials and lab sessions.
  • Classes are typically in 3-hour blocks: 8:30 – 11:30am, 12noon – 3pm, or 3:30 – 6:30pm and may be held on Saturday mornings and/or afternoons (subject to timetable).
  • Classes delivered by UOW academics are conducted in an intensive mode – a continuous block of seven days for each module.
  • Students typically study two modules per term. Each year comprises of 4 terms.
  • Minimum class size to commence: 24 students
  • In the event that the minimum number is not met, the intake may not commence. The student shall be informed within one month before programme commencement.

Assessment & Attendance

  • Students are normally assessed by continuous assessment in the following form:
    • Assignments
    • Class tests
    • Laboratory exercises
    • Practical laboratory tests
    • Presentations
    • Projects
    • Tutorial exercises
  • Some assignments and presentations will be group-based. Assessment may have minimum achievement requirement necessary to pass the module.
  • Most modules have a final examination at the end of term.
  • Students are to pass all modules within the current year of study before proceeding to the next year of study.
  • For modules with pre-requisites, students may be required to meet the pre-requisites before undertaking the modules.

    • Local students: 80%
    • International students: 90%

Requirements to Graduate

Students who successfully complete all academic requirements of the programme will be awarded the Bachelor of Computer Science (Digital Systems Security and Cyber Security) / (Digital Systems Security and Big Data) / (Big Data and Cyber Security) by the University of Wollongong, Australia.

A degree conferral ceremony will be held in ²ÝÁñÉçÇø.

Admission Criteria

Accepted Entry Qualifications

The following qualifications are accepted:

  • 3 GCE ‘A’ level / 3 H2 passes plus 1 H1 pass with a minimum aggregate of 9 points where A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1 (for H1 apply half the value)*
  • Diploma: 3-year diploma from local polytechnic or its equivalent.

Applicants may be admitted to different credit exemptions based on their academic results.

  • Exemptions are normally granted automatically to students with relevant background. Block exemptions may be granted to students with relevant diplomas from the local polytechnics and universities.
  • All modules previously studied will be evaluated and compared with the requirements of the student’s programme of study and a block exemption granted where appropriate.
  • To obtain maximum credit exemption, applicants must have GPA of 2.0 or more (out of 4.0). Applicants with GPA below 2.0 will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

English Language Requirements

Applicants with international qualification must meet the University’s English requirement:

  • IELTS (Academic) overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0; or
  • TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 70 with a minimum score of 18 in Reading & Writing and 17 in Speaking & Listening; or
  • Pearson (PTE) Academic overall score of 54 with minimum score of 54 in Reading & Writing and 47 in Speaking & Listening or equivalent.

Note: IELTS Indicator, TOEFL (iBT) at home test and Pearson (PTE) Academic Online not accepted.

Student Development Fee

Payment applicable to all students embarking on a full-time Diploma or Undergraduate programme at SIM. This fee goes towards activities that will help in students’ personal growth and equip them with functional skills that enhance their employability.
